Anthropic has recently launched Claude 3, a new family of large language models (LLMs) claiming significant performance gains across various cognitive tasks. While some benchmarks suggest "near-human" capabilities in specific areas, experts urge caution due to the inherent limitations of comparing benchmarks.

Meta is taking a step towards fighting the spread of fake images created by artificial intelligence. They plan to introduce technology that can detect and label images generated by AI tools. While this initiative tackles fake AI-generated images, concerns remain about its effectiveness and the broader fight against manipulated content across various media formats.

China is developing its own text-to-video model called Open-Sora. This collaborative project between Peking University and AI company Rabbitpre aims to create a user-friendly and scalable open-source version of OpenAI's Sora model. Open-Sora has already made progress, developing a framework and demonstrating video generation capabilities. However, future plans include improving resolution, expanding training data, and increasing processing power for longer, more detailed videos.

Bitcoin recently hit a new all-time high, and experts are debating the role of spot bitcoin ETFs in this rapid rise. While they acknowledge that the ETFs accelerated the process, most agree that Bitcoin would have reached this peak eventually. Data shows that despite losing some holdings, established investment vehicles like Grayscale's trust and the newly launched spot ETFs still hold a significant amount of bitcoin combined, indicating continued investor interest. Beyond the ETFs, experts also point to broader economic factors like potential interest rate cuts and the end of a federal banking program as contributing to the rally.

Ethereum is about to undergo a major upgrade called "Dencun," scheduled for March 13, 2024. This upgrade is crucial for addressing the network's scalability challenges and improving user experience. Dencun builds upon previous upgrades like the Beacon Chain and the Merge, focusing specifically on scalability after laying the groundwork for security and sustainability.

The upgrade introduces several functionalities like streamlined data management, smarter contract security, and a better staking experience. Notably, "proto-danksharding" takes center stage as a key feature for improving scalability. This feature efficiently manages large data chunks by temporarily storing them and later removing them, ultimately reducing storage burden and transaction costs, especially for rollup transactions. In essence, the Dencun upgrade signifies a significant leap for Ethereum, aiming to make the network faster, cheaper, and more scalable.

Cross-chain protocol Wormhole is giving away its W governance token through an airdrop. Nearly 400,000 wallets across various blockchains and communities, including users of Wormhole applications and participants in specific NFT projects, are eligible to claim a portion of the 617.3 million W tokens being distributed. While no claim date has been announced, pre-market trading suggests the airdrop could be substantial, with potential value exceeding $1.5 billion. The W token will be available on both Solana and Ethereum as well as several other blockchains. An airdrop eligibility checker is available on Wormhole's website for users to see if they qualify.

Aethir, a Nvidia-backed company, aims to be the "Airbnb" for spare GPUs. They are building a decentralized network that allows users to rent out unused processing power from their graphics cards, similar to how Airbnb allows people to rent out unused space in their homes. Aethir believes that this will increase overall GPU utilization and lead to more advanced AI use cases due to the lower cost of computing power. They are launching their initial node offering on March 14th, followed by a public node sale on March 20th.

Google is taking a major step to combat low-quality content and SEO spam impacting search results. Rolling out in May 2024, this update aims to improve user experience by downranking websites that prioritize search engine manipulation over providing valuable content.

This includes various tactics: targeting unoriginal content like repurposed expired domains and automatically generated content lacking value, addressing websites that exploit reputation by hosting unrelated low-quality content, and tackling misleading practices like fake product reviews or discounts.

In a major shift towards content monetization, Telegram is launching an ad platform next month. Channel owners will be able to share in the revenue generated from ads displayed on their channels, receiving 50% of all ad income. This program, available in nearly 100 countries starting in March, utilizes Toncoin, the cryptocurrency of the TON blockchain, for all payouts. By following the footsteps of platforms like YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) with similar revenue-sharing models, Telegram aims to create a "virtuous circle" for creators. They can either cash out their Toncoin earnings or reinvest them in promoting and growing their channels.

Their concerns are valid: nearly half of those using AI have encountered inaccurate information, raising doubts about its reliability. Additionally, the potential for AI to inherit biases from its developers raises concerns about fairness and ethics.
